4 Design Trends I saw at High Point Market
Can you spot the design trends in this photo? Read on to learn what they are!
Spring is upon us, bringing us spring showers, spring cleaning, and spring styles! I just got back from Spring High Point Market, a yearly event where designers comb through over 10 million square feet of new design products from over 2000 exhibitors. It feels like Christmas and a trip to Disneyland all at once as I discover new trends and products, test out furniture, and check the quality of each vendor’s wares.
Trend #1: Furniture with Woven Cane Details
One of the hottest trends this spring is caned furniture. Caned furniture is hardly new - Egyptian King Tutankhamen had a caned daybed in his tomb way back in 1325 BCE - but the style endures to this day. Many modern caned furniture pieces at Market had contemporary lines, mixing modern style with traditional finishes, while others had black or painted finishes.
Designer Tip: Combine traditional materials with contemporary styles to create a more casual room.

Trend #2 Angles and Curves
The second trend I saw at Market was angles and curves. Curved furniture legs, arms, and chair and sofa backs play with geometry, creating unexpected angles and scale that can elevate the style of the room.
Designer Tip: Adding furniture with curves and angles can make a room feel more inviting and less formal.

Trend #3: Natural elements
Natural elements and wood elements were also plentiful at Market, usually paired with neutrals and saturated colors. The wood tones at Market ran the gamut from black to mid-toned walnut to light finishes.
Designer Tip: Darker colors take up more visual space, while lighter colors make a room feel more open.

Design Trend #4: Bold, Saturated Colors
The fourth trend I found at Market was saturated colors. Teal was the belle of the ball, showing up everywhere with orange and soft neutral accents. Navy, red, green, and black are all still very popular.
Designer Tip: To make color look intentional in a room, use the color in three different areas in a room at three different heights - floor, middle, and eye-height.
